Artists will create typography! Typography is the design of letters. Start by writing the letters of your name out. Look at the letters and their anatomy (the shapes and lines they make). Now come up with different ways to transform those letters into new shapes, objects, or items that would keep the original form of each letter. Look at the examples provided. Use pencil to start and trace in black marker or sharpie. Add color with crayon, marker, colored pencil and/or paint. Choose an Authors in April Project from the Art Page

DESIGN A NEW BOOK COVER Artists will create a new cover design for a book at home. Suggested supplies: paper, pencil, and coloring tools of your choice. |

Activity 2
Architecture is a carefully constructed structure-or building. Architecture comes in many styles, shapes and sizes from very fancy Vicortian homes to Large Romanesque castles to modern skyscrapers. Architecture can be as simple and plain or as decorative and fancy as you want to design and build. Before you begin your design, lay out your materials and decide what you have. You can use discarded cardboard shipping boxes, cereal boxes, cracker boxes, shoe boxes, even some of the junk mail flyers can be nice and stiff for building a 3D structure. Can you make one small structure, one large structure or several structures? If you have paper towel and/or toilet paper tubes, how can they become part of your structure-pillars, stilts, chimneys, tourettes-you could even cut them open for more shapes. Drawing a simple plan out, like a tradition blue print can be helpful too.

Click on the button below to see the full instructions and click on the buttons below to learn how to make the paste at home and how to apply the paste and the strips. |
3D WORRY MONSTERS
PARENT PROMPT: Talk about worries or “thinking” with the child and have them identify some worries, thoughts, frustrations, etc. that they would like to not think of in that moment. Creating a worry monster for young students is a great way for children to express their thoughts and emotions. Students have the opportunity to use recycled goods to create their very own worry monster, animal or whatever creation they would like. Students will be able to use this worry monster to put their worries or thoughts, a place where they can feel free to express themselves. |
